Duncan Flexible Crown Molding
$13.95 – $23.95
per ft

Here is an example of a inside curved wall. Notice that the molding would have to notched out because there would be to much material to mount it flush against the wall.

Here is an example of a curved outside wall. Notice that the molding would have to notched out to bend around the outside curve. There would not be enough material to to go around the curved wall.
Flexible crown moldings can not be bought off of a warehouse shelf. Please look at the examples below to know why. All flexible crown moldings should be custom made to fit the radius of a wall.
Flexible molding is made in a silicone rubber mold that is pre-curved to meet you radius or curved wall. When you receive it will come in a box and look like a rolled up fire hose. When you unroll the molding it will have a curve in it. When you install it on the ceiling It will form into place like the radius or curve of the wall.
Flexible molding is a polyester resin based product. The material fells similar to the side wall of a car tire. All molding are made to a specified curve or radius.
No primer coats are needed. Most standard paints are compatible.
Thin, watery or mainly solvent base stains will not work well. If you must stain the molding, be sure to use a heavily pigmented oil base stain, gel stain or artist oil. You can also mix tints or stains into a clear glazing liquid available at most paint stores.
Wipe or brush stain to desired color and apply a clear top coat finish.
Flexible moldings are a polyester resin based product and are less flexible when stored at low temperatures. Improper flexing of the material below 56 degrees F may cause breakage. Before installing allow molding to reach room temperature somewhere between 60-80 degrees F. for 24 hours.
Can flexible moldings be nailed and glued like regular wood moldings? Yes pneumatic pin nailers work well and even better when nails end are ground  blunt and not pointed. Nails should be kept 6″ apart and 3/8″ for any edge. Pre-drilling is not necessary when using #6 or smaller finish nails. Some installers use only glue adhesives and no nails at all.
Creative Crown adhesives do the job well when no nails are used.
Flexible moldings be cut, shaped or sanded like wood moldings. Yes, flexible moldings can be cut, shaped or sanded using standard wood working equipment. Flexible molding gives the appearance of real wood. It is moisture and insect proof. It can withstand extreme heat and cold temperatures without warping, cracking or deteriorating.
Our crown has a “flat back” so that you do not have to worry about making sure it is sitting flush at the wall and ceiling contact points. Because of our Flat Back design, you do not need to worry about complex/compound miter cuts due to the spring angle as pictured in illustration 1.

If you will notice the “legs/fingers” that come off the back of ours (see illustration 2), it allows it to sit flush on the wall. Because of that, you no longer have to worry about the spring angle like in illustration 1. It takes all the guess work out of it and potential complications. But you still get the same look of the spring angle and crown. Like this:
